School teachers in Colorado are being offered an interactive curriculum that gives students an inside look at a dairy farm. The curriculum, is created by the Center for Dairy Excellence Foundation of Pennsylvania.

“The adopt a Cow Program is designed to bring the farm to the classroom.”

Program Manager Brittany Haag says the free curriculum has been available to Pennsylvania students since 2012. The foundation opened the program to students nationwide last year.

“We went from 50 classrooms being involved to nearly 600 registrations now passing 30-thousand students.”

The curriculum meets most state education standards in math, science and reading, as well as Common CORE standards in Literacy and Math. The series also incorporates standards aligned with STEM.

In the first year of the national roll out, 2 classrooms in Colorado began using the Adopt a Cow Program. More classrooms are expected to come on line this year. Information about the Adopt a Cow program is found at discoverdairy.com. Enrollment closes on Oct. 18 .
