O' La La, it is merely a coincidence this story falls on United Nations day but it isn't a happen stance that sales of French Wine have become stagnant. Remember the power of our r pocketbooks But back to the French, out of sheer desperation over the glut of French wine on the market wine producers in France have discovered a new lucrative use for wine, even fine wines, ethanol. When this year comes to a close enough French wine to fill 133 million bottles will have been turned into gasoline, much of it for export. While France lags behind the US in wine sales they are outstripping us in their pursuit of renewable fuel technology . French gasoline already contains 1 percent of ethanol, the majority made from sugar beets and that component is expected to reach 5.75 percent by 2010 to fit European Union Demands. WE could be a bit hypocritical boycotting French wines when it turns out we actually French gas. You might not be drinkin it but your SUV could be guzzling French Chardonnay. I'm Susan Allen and this is Food Forethought.
