Hollywood loves the Erin Brocovich saga, you know the one where some poor-overworked Mom becomes a crusader tackling a big corporation or a cause. I for one am getting tired of that story line, especially when I read about the newest darling of the press. Janet Skarbek has made it her mission to be the mad-cow crusader. This suburban mom, with a master's degree, a fortune 500 resume and a consulting company is desperately turning over every stone she can to manufacture any cluster of mad cow disease cluster anywhere, despite the fact that there has never been a case of mad cow in the United States, (with the exception of a woman who had been raised in Briton.) this self appointed advocate even believes she has the clout to consult with Japanese politicians on US beef exports I find it offensive that Ms. Skarbek, who sees stars, in the form of Meryl Streep or Julia Robert, and has already hired a documentary film crew to chronicle her mission and receives more media attention about the minuscule risk of Mad Cow (one in a million) while friends of mine work tirelessly to fight mass murderers like breast cancer or third world hunger, and they do it without a film crew.
