Who's An Environmentalist Pt1
With today's Fruit Grower Report, I'm Bob Larson. Who are the REAL environmentalists in our midst? Who does it matter the most to? If you're a farmer, the answer is probably YOU!Washington Policy Center's Madi Clark posted a blog last week that laid it out ...
MADI CLARK ... "The one's that truly care about the land, that are working it every day, that are trying to make it get to the next generation and be better and to make it better, they're the farmer. It's really easy to say "we care" It's really easy to put forth the words to say that "I care about the environment," especially when we're surrounded by concrete or we're in the city. I'm not saying that they don't care, but the ones that care through their actions and what they do every single day, those are farmers. The farmers that I know, they're caring for the land. And so, that's what this blog was about is to tell their story, to focus in on that."
Clark says farmers get thrown under the bus far too often when topics like soil erosion and water contamination come up ...
MADI CLARK ... "But the people that are actually caring about the land and caring about the water, they live on it, they're the farmers. They want the soil to be there because if the soil is not their tomorrow, or in ten years, or in a hundred years, they don't have a farm any more. If the water is bad, they don't have a farm any more. And that's one thing I want people to realize is that the farmers care because it's their livelihood, it's their legacy. That land, that water, everything about it, is what they want to pass on to the next generation so, why would they destroy it? They're not going to. They care!"
Listen tomorrow for more on Clark's take on America's true environmentalists, the famer.
