Newest Member of US Farmers and Ranchers Alliance
The American Sugarbeet Growers Association recently joined as a member of the U.S. Farmers and Ranchers Alliance — an organization that consists of more than 90 -farmer and rancher-led organizations and ag partners representing nearly all aspects of agriculture. ASGA President Galen Lee of New Plymouth, Idaho, shares why his organization decided to become an affiliate of USFRA.Lee: “We joined up because basically, there is a lot of misinformation out there about farming overall — specifically areas of biotech, sustainability and animal welfare. Agriculture gets more pressure from consumers all the time. So there needs to be more platforms and more opportunities to tell people what we do and how we do it. There is a lot of misinformation about what happens directly on the farm. Consumers rely on what they hear from other sources. They need to be hearing it directly from us. So along with other people in agriculture, we want to be able to tell our story and that is why we decided to join.”
Lee participated in his first USFRA board meeting and says the organization brings all of agriculture together and each sector can learn from the other.
Lee: “We have the same overall concerns. There are little details that are different but as we find out more about each other, we learn about what’s involved in the other aspects of agriculture.”
