Weekly Cattle Report
This is Matt Rice with the Market Line Report for Dec. 26th. I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas with family and friends. As we take a look at the beef market update, producers are all smiles as prices continued to increase over the week and into the holiday weekend. Let's go to Greg Sanders with the Weekly feeder cattle report from the USDA.
Sanders "National Slaughter Cattle Review, on Friday negotiated cash trade was active on good demand in all feeding regions. Compared to last week in the Texas Panhandle, live sales sold $3 higher at $1.15 with a few up to $1.16. In Kansas and Colorado, compared to last week live sales sold $4 higher at $1.16. In Nebraska compared to last week live sales sold mostly $3-$4 higher at $1.15 to $1.16, with dress sales $5 dollars higher at $1.80."
Chicago markets, July wheat prices closed the day dn 3 ¼, at 421 ½. Chicago July Corn prices were dn 1 ¼, to close the day at 361. Prices in Portland for Soft White Winter Wheat of ordinary protein for April were dn 3 ¼- unch, ranging from 4-34 ¾ to 4-52. Hard Red Winter Wheat with 11.5 % protein, future prices for April were dn 2, at mostly 5-02 ½. DNS Wheat with 14 % protein, prices for March were dn 4, ranging from 6-38 ½ to 6-53 ½. April Live Cattle closed the day dn 50 cents, at 114.25. April Feeder cattle were dn 50 cents, at 126.12 ½. Feb. class III milk was dn 2 cents at 16-98.
