Trump Will Stop TPP Deal

Trump Will Stop TPP Deal

On Monday, President-Elect Trump announced on a YouTube video some of his future plans. One of the topics he addressed was the Trans-Pacific Partnership and his intentions moving forward.

Trump: "As part of my plan, I've asked my transition team to develop of list of executive actions we can take on day one to restore our laws and bring back our jobs — it is about time. These include the following: on trade I'm going to issue a notification of intent to withdraw from the Trans-Pacific Partnership a potential disaster to our country. Instead we will negotiate fair bi-lateral trade deals that bring jobs and industry back onto American shores."

I recently visited with Washington Congressman Dan Newhouse about TPP and he shares

Newhouse: "I asked Mr. Trump about trade specifically when I had an opportunity this last summer — think I've told you before. He reiterated his interest in strong trade deals and wants good trade deals for our country. He is not against international trade. I certainly made the case that is very important — especially for our state and our producers and I will continue to do that and work for a positive trade deal for us."
