This is your Northwest report for Friday, November 11th, I'm David Sparks and immigration is at the top of many agendas. You may recall that President-elect Trump declared that he wanted to build a wall between Mexico and United States and get the Mexican government to pay for it. He also promised to put together deportation task forces and to evict illegal immigrants. National Farmers Union's president Roger Johnson told agri-pulse.com reporter Spencer Chase: "that's an example of statements made that cannot be kept. There is no way you're going to export 11 million people. I know that statement changed as the campaign went on. Mexico is not going to pay for a new wall. What we really need is fundamental immigration reform in this country and I think that is something that everyone in agriculture and my guess is the general public does as well." Also, American Farm Bureau Chief Economist Bob Young says there is an atmosphere of willingness to work on the issue: "I will say that as part of our conversation

with the campaign crew, they were very strong on extending a willingness to work with us. You know that we have to have a legal, viable, affordable workforce for agriculture to move forward."

Elsewhere, A new Agriculture Secretary is set to take office sometime next year, but everyone is wondering who that person will be. it has been stated there is no clear front runner.
