With today's Fruit Grower Report, I'm Bob Larson. With Halloween right around the corner, an Olympia teacher is celebrating a big win at the 43rd Half Moon Bay pumpkin weigh-off.

After an unseasonably cool beginning to summer, Cindy Tobeck wasn't sure this would be the year to realize her ultimate pumpkin fantasy until one plant got her attention ...

CINDY TOBECK "When this thing started to take off, I was quite surprised. I'm mean all my plants did pretty well, but this one never really quit. It was just a good steady grower, so I was very surprised."

Tobeck says as the competition drew near, a friend brought over a hanging scale to weigh her biggest pumpkin, the first one weighing in at 1,602 pounds ...

CINDY TOBECK "So then we went to the next one, which I thought was bigger, the one I just took to Half Moon Bay, and I said 'well, I don't want to know what it weighs, but if it's over 1,900 pounds I think I probably better take it to Half Moon Bay.' Which, I said that, but I really didn't believe whatsoever it was going to be 1,900 pounds because by its measurements it should have been only weighing around 1,750 maybe."

But in the end, her pumpkin weighed in at a whopping 1,910 pounds to capture the top prize, which is? ...

CINDY TOBECK "$6 a pound, so about 11-and-a-half-thousand dollars."

The pumpkin has been sold to the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas for Halloween. Cindy will get her prize winning seeds when the pumpkin is carved.
