Amending The Packers & Stockyards Act

The Senate on Thursday sent the Clarification of Treatment of Electronic Sales of Livestock Act to the White House. The bill would amend the Packers & Stockyards Act of 1921 to ensure that the law's protections are extended to online or video livestock auctions. The bill would also ensure modern electronic banking options. More mergers, Monsanto and Dow AgroSciences announced that the companies have reached a non-exclusive global option and licensing agreement on Dow's EXZACT Precision Technology Platform for research and commercial development of new crop solutions across Monsanto Company's research portfolio.

Fishing and hunting equipment chain Cabela's said it agreed to be bought by Bass Pro Shops in a deal valued at $5.5 billion that will help the privately held company nearly double its store count in North America. Reuters reported on Sunday that a consortium of Bass Pro Shops, Goldman Sachs Group's private equity arm and Capital One Financial was in the lead to buy the company. The combined company will own 184 stores in the United States and Canada.
