College Aggies Online Scholarship Competition Launches Next Week
There is a great scholarship opportunity for those college students who are passionate about agriculture. The Animal Agriculture Alliance's annual College Aggies Online which kicks off next Monday, the 19th. Animal Ag Alliance's Communications Director Hannah Thompson gives more details on the program.Thompson: "We're launching the annual College Aggies Online Scholarship competition next week. There is still time for students to sign up — both as individuals and as clubs — to compete. We began College Aggies back in 2009. It was really our way of making sure that college students with a passion for agriculture had the tools that they need to be confident communicators with their peers. Because college is the first time that students are on their own. Making their own food purchasing decisions and really being faced with a lot of labels and claims and that makes them a prime target for some of our detractor groups. They put a lot of emphasis of recruitment on college campuses. So we wanted to be sure that all of the bright, talented, and smart ag students out there have the tools and knowledge they need to connect with their peers and really share their own experiences about animal agriculture and make sure that there is positive, factual and science-based information on campus."
During the program, students receive weekly assignments ranging from writing a blog post to creating an infographic, giving a public presentation about a hot topic in agriculture and more. Participants earn points by posting content promoting and explaining agriculture on social media. Winners are named in December and given up to $2,500 in scholarship monies.
