John Block On TPP's Chances

I’m Susan Allen, President Obama is telling Asian partners that despite the political noise back home, deals like the Trans-Pacific Partnership “eventually get done.” Obama says after the summit of G-20 nations in China that the U.S. has “never had a smooth uncontroversial path to passing trade deals, but they eventually get done.”

The President says, “Back home, we’ll have to cut through the noise once the election season is over,” citing the need to open markets generally closed to U.S. goods. But Obama keeps running into bipartisan TPP resistance, not just from the two major party presidential candidates, but from both party leaders in Congress.

Former USDA Secretary and ag trade proponent John Block does not expect Obama to give up so quickly

BLOCK: Anything could change but I don’t think the President will give up until he finds out it’s not going to happen.
