Niche Meat Processor Assistance Network

With the continued interest in local food, many new people are entering the meat processing industry on a local level. Often without a lot of meat industry background or knowledge, they struggle to find resources and expert assistance.

Well, since its creation of the Niche Meat Processors Assistance Network in 2007 its purpose has been to be a hub for people and organizations wanting small meat processors to thrive. Director of the Network Dr. Lauren Gwin shares

Gwin: "The network — the NMPAN is really a network. Sometimes that I think people think we have a huge squad here at the center and we just generate stuff and sending it out. For me, the center has always been about — some call it crowdsourcing. About finding these ideas, this innovations — wild ideas of how people are trying to solve these different challenges they have and trying to make these businesses work. I would encourage anyone listening to this who has something to contribute to that discussion use NMPAN as a way to get it out there and have that national conversation about it. To share ideas, to ask questions, and to learn from it and that is exactly what we are suppose to be doing and that's why we are here."
