Beef Counts Program Helps Feed Hungry

The Beef Counts Program provides lean beef protein to those of our neighbors in need throughout the Pacific Northwest. Agribeef Company's Corporate Marketing Specialist Alethea Prewett shares more details about next week's Beef Counts event.

Prewett: "Agribeef, along Rosauers and members of Washington beef community will be in Spokane for a Beef Counts distribution. We will be going out with Second Harvest foodbank and distributing beef to several hundred families in need This is a acclamation of a summer promotion that happen at Rosauer's supermarkets all summer. For the past several years, they've done a buy beef and fight hunger campaign. Ten cents of every pound of beef bought at Rosauers' during the summer campaign gets donated to the Beef Counts program."

Prewett says that it has been exciting to watch the Rosauer's campaign continue to grow every year.

Prewett: "We have been doing this program now for several years, we are starting to see traction in the consumer population — which I feel is very exciting. It has been an industry-driven effort. With the help of this Rosauers partnership we are able to get that message out that protein — beef protein — is so needed at our food banks. Only 4 percent of the donations to food banks is high quality protein. So now it is not just producers and the ag industry trying to raise money and get beef to the food bank. Consumers and customers of our products are actively involved as well."
