Bison Industry Needs Ranchers

With The Agribusiness Update.The EPA has approved Quelex herbicide from Dow AgroSciences. Quelex is now registered for use in wheat. Quelex, according to Dow AgroSciences offers advanced broadleaf weed control, including resistant biotypes. WSJ reports that the US bison industry is working to recruit new ranchers in an attempt to keep up with the demand for the leaner meat. Bison meat sales topped $340 million last year as retailers like Whole Foods, Wal-Mart and Kroger featured bison burgers and steaks. Wholesale prices for bison meat are currently around $4.50 a pound. Ranchers are hesitant to incorporate bison into their herds because they harder to handle than cattle requiring substantial fencing.
