Regional Weekly Hay Report

Here is USDA Grain and Livestock Reporter Greg Sanders with the Columbia Basin Hay report from last week.
Sanders: “We had 24,620 tons of hay trade. Trade active this week with good demand, even though dairies have reported cutting hay consumption in their ration by two-thirds. Blue grass straw is being sold for no value as long as the buyer bale it and haul it off the field. Alfalfa mid-square bales premium quality export hay $155 per ton. Small square alfalfa for the export market $185 a ton. Timothy grass mid-square for export on premium quality $190 per ton. Oat hay mid-square bales good quality $80 per ton.”
In Idaho compared the previous week all grades of alfalfa were steady for higher testing diary hay. Trade was active last week with good demand. Mid-square bales of alfalfa rated supreme sold between $135 and $155 per ton with premium/supreme rated mid-squares of alfalfa for $140 per ton.
In Oregon, prices trended generally steady compared to the previous week. Many happy producers are selling their first cutting hay, and working on second cutting resulting in higher volumes of hay moving. In Lake County alfalfa large squares rated supreme old crop sold for $225 per ton. In Central Oregon, alfalfa large squares rated fair old crop sold for $115 per ton. In Klamath Basin large squares of alfalfa rated premium sold for $175 per ton. In Eastern Oregon Timothy grass large squares rated premium for export sold for $180. In Harney County large square bales of alfalfa with rain damage sold for $150 per ton.
