Fishing With Doug

If you're looking for beautiful scenery and great fishing, you might want to put Wallowa Lake on your to do list. A good friend of mine Doug Smith, was lucky enough to get his boat out last week to try his luck.

Doug "From what I read they put in about 6,000 in a week or so ago according to their plan. We ended up hooking 2 larger ones, but we weren't trolling when we caught the larger triploids. When we were fishing for those I was just bottom fishing with the power egg, and then it got pretty darn hot during the day. So we went ahead and went back to the west side, just under the tree next to the shore and we were just fishing right there and Kelly, my wife was throwing a spinner. I can't remember what it was maybe a rooster tail, and she hooked up with a big one over there on that side. We measured one and it was right at 18 Inches, and they're real fat, those triploids that they put in there. They'll usually plant 100 or 200 triploids whenever they do a plant with the smaller ones.

Matt "So where I grew up we did have triploids, what are those?"

Doug "Those are larger trout I think they are the ones that don't reproduce and then they're real fat too. I mean, you know you have one of those hooked on, totally different than catching one of the planters."

Matt "Doug, thanks for sharing some of your top fishing secrets, I'm looking forward to catching a few triploids myself."
