11 days ago on Friday, June 3, a Union Pacific train carrying crude oil derailed on a tiny strip of land running between the Columbia River and the small town of Mosier, Oregon. Sixteen train cars carrying crude oil derailed, and four of those cars were breached, spilling oil and igniting in flames. Portland television station KGW made of us aware of why this was so important to Oregon's U.S. Rep. Greg Walden: "Congressman Greg Walden is trying to find a way to prevent future oil train derailments in Oregon. Last Friday's crash and explosion happened just 7 miles from his house. On the House floor today, he beat the drum of the importance of the government making safety a priority.

In other news and, from the Washington Post, it remains unclear what role the methods and ideology of the Islamic State militant group played in the slaughter Omar Mateen carried out at a gay nightclub in Orlando. Investigators say he made a 911 phone call during the attack in which he said he was avenging the bombings of Muslims in the Middle East and referenced the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings. In areas under the control of the Islamic State, its fighters have issued death edicts against homosexual behavior and flashy hairstyles.
