Colorado Energy Office Receives $1.1 Million USDA Award

The Colorado Energy Office or CEO has been working with NRCS’ Regional Conservation Partnership Program and the Colorado Department of Ag as well as utility and industry partners for several years in their Colorado Dairy and Irrigation Efficiency Program. Yesterday the CEO announced it has been awarded $1.1 million through the USDA to help finance even more energy efficiency improvements for Colorado farmers. CEO Energy Efficiency Manager Michael Turner shares how these additional funds will assist farmers who participate in the Dairy and irrigation efficiency program.
Turner: “Colorado producers can reduce their energy use from anywhere from 10 to 30 percent. With these RCPP funds, we can reduce the payback period for these projects from five years to about 1 to 2 years. This allows producers to be more resilient to variable costs associated with food production. Our program was designed specifically for Colorado producers — especially dairy producers and the farmers with powered irrigation. They should know that the program is very easy to participate and is free of cost. The RCPP funds are only for our program participants. They can go to our website www.colorado.gov/energy to fill out an application.”
Turner says the program is tailored to farmers and their busy schedule. It is a streamlined process and producers work with one energy advisor for the entire process — the audit and to receive the technical and implementation support.
Producers can also call the CEO office at 1-800-441-8525 to speak with an energy advisor.
