Cattleman's Boot Camp

Cattleman's Boot Camp

Cattleman's Boot Camp. I'm Greg Martin with Washington Ag Today.

Are you prepared for boot camp? Don Llewellyn, Regional Livestock Specialist with Washington State University Extension says there's still time to register for the Cattleman's Boot Camp.

LLEWELLYN: It's a joint effort between the American Angus Association and Washington State University Extension. It's a two-day event, Friday, April 15th and Saturday, April 16th at the Benton Franklin Fairgrounds in Kennewick. The first evening session will be Friday. It starts about 5 o'clock and that's going to focus in on post-fire techniques and tools and strategies for beef producers which is kind of a follow up to the real fire disasters that we had last year and the year before.

He says they hope that will help prepare for the next disaster event.

LLEWELLYN: Then on Saturday, it's more of a general session with regard to beef production and we'll have a whole host of subjects that day. Beef cattle economics and bull selection, genomics and feed intake are just a few, fetal programming. We'll be talking about source verification, beef quality and there's even going to be a section on the new veterinary feed directive

You can still register but only by contacting Llewellyn or Mark Nelson at WSU Extension office in Kennewick by the end of next week.

And that's Washington Ag Today. I'm Greg Martin, thanks for listening on the Ag Information Network of the West.
