WOTUS Next Steps

WOTUS Next Steps

Last week following a very close vote that supported EPA’s Waters of the US, a bi-artisan joint resolution was passed in the Senate. This resolution would order the EPA and Corps to withdraw the WOTUS rule and would prevent the agencies from further similar rule making. National Cattlemen’s Beef Association Vice President of Government Relations Colin Woodall says even though its chances of not being stopped by the President are nil — it is still positive.
Woodall: “Now the House will have to consider this. A and it will ultimately go to the President. Unfortunately however, we do know that the President is going to veto this. So we will have to try and find some other actions to kill the Waters of the U.S. rule but this was still a step in the right direction just to show the overall support we have in the Senate.”
Woodall continues
Woodall: “It’s hard to imagine that the democrats in the Senate and especially the President could ignore the outrage from so many facets of our economy. This is not just an agriculture issue; we have the homebuilders, we have the mining association. We have counties. We have municipalities — just about everybody who uses and manages land has shown their unhappiness at this rule and the fact that they are against it. So this really shows where a political agenda is trumping what is right for water quality and definitely what’s right for those of us who use and manage the land.”
