The Best Days of the Rut. You already know that in the next few weeks, the biggest bucks will be tearing up the woods, smashing heads, and running does everywhere. The only questions are: how will you hunt and when? Get killer tactics for every breeding phase, and (bust out your calendar) 2015's 7 must-hunt dates. Plus, get a look at some enviable reader trophies. I talked with Colin Kearns Senior Deputy Editor Field & Stream: "Probably our most popular cover story that we do each year. I think this is the 11th year that we have been doing it and quite tail deer are the most popular animal to hunt amongst our readers and November is the best time to hunt them because it is the time of the rut and we researched the best days to hunt them, we do a little bit of predicting and we name those days and tell readers the best hunting tactics to use on those days to shoot a big buck. Our researchers are writers, we call them rut reporters, and they do these field reports on our website every week. Before the season they put out a lot of calls to fish and game branches in states throughout the region get a feel for how the breeding amongst the deer last year was going and ask them for any sorts of information may have based on how this year is going.
