Regional Weekly Hay Report

Here is USDA Grain and Livestock Reporter Greg Sanders with the Columbia Basin Hay report from last week.
Sanders: “We had 4850 tons of hay trade this week. Compared to last week, supreme dairy fourth and fifth cutting steady to weak in a light test. Export hay not tested this week. Exports are basically out of the market, as our lots are full and are cutting hours at their presses. Supreme alfalfa sold at $190 FOB. Small square retail alfalfa for stable market sold from $260 to $265. Orchard grass for the retail market small squares sold from $260 to $275. Wheat straw good sold for $50 FOB the farm.
In Idaho compared to previous week, supreme, premium and good alfalfa was steady in a light test. Trade slow to moderate last week with continued light demand. Exporters continue to look for covered hay with producers sorting out bottom bales. Snow and rain were reported in the trade area. Supreme mid-square bales of alfalfa sold for $145 per ton. Premium/supreme mid-square organic alfalfa bales sold for $250 per ton.
In Oregon, prices trended generally steady in comparison to the previous week. Export sales have picked up slightly. In Central Oregon, retail and stable market demand for all types of hay continues to be good. In Eastern Oregon alfalfa large squares rated supreme sold for $235 per ton. In Klamath Basin premium large square alfalfa bales sold for $210 per ton. In Harney County, large square bales of alfalfa rated good sold for $140 per ton.
