Wolf Protests
Last week was a doozy when it comes to the subject of the wolf lovers. The Idaho Statesman reported that a half-dozen pro-wolf activists from around the country demonstrated at the Idaho Statehouse and a woman from Virginia chained herself to the door of the governor’s office, demanding that Gov. Butch Otter respond to the group’s concerns. In the ultimate of ironies, while the Virginia woman was chained to his door, Gov. Otter was in Virginia.
Members of the Wolf and Wildlife Action Group, or WWAG, said Idaho should spend its state money to fund education, not to kill wolves. Tell that to British Columbia outfitter Mark Warner: “We did really well last year on our wolves. I know that is a hot topic right now. British Columbia is under attack by a lot of the anti-hunters for our proactive approach towards culling wolves professionally in order to save the red listed species, the sensitive caribou.” Tell that to Rancher Bill Davis who since 1996, has had over 40 confirmed cattle deaths due to wolves. “We lost our first two calves in 1996.” “I have witnessed it 40 times. I'm sick of it. These calves die because they have been ran to total exhaustion. Then they go down. They’ll hit a mud hole. They'll do something and go down. Then the wolves will chew on them, releasing toxins that shut down the internal organs and that’s what they die from.”
