Securing Your Data
Securing Your Data. I’m Greg Martin with Colorado Ag Today.Data collection and usage is a hot topic today. Data is collected from us every time we surf the internet and agree to all kinds of apps and website usage. Dan Danford with Case IH says they wanted to get some information about farmers data.
DANFORD: We wanted to see the real results of how producers actually understood about the intricacies of data privacy and data control and namely what they’re protecting, what their current conditions are, whether or not they’re in a spot where they can share their data between different brands of farm equipment or did they really know their user agreement.
He says a lot of the respondents came back with an “I don’t know” answer. Danford says the terms of use agreement is a key element.
DANFORD: A lot of companies have very detailed terms of use agreements for their telematics systems and Case IH has designed theirs to be very simple and straight forward and make sure it comes through load and clear that when you read that agreement you understand that when I check the box that I understand and agree to these terms, that I’m not giving up my rights to my data.
Case IH has their own data management system called AFS Connect. Danford says when it comes to your data, you need to know.
DANFORD: If I was going to put it all down to one line of what we hope growers will do as a result of this it is read your user agreement.
And that’s Colorado Ag Today. I’m Greg Martin, thanks for listening on the Ag Information Network of the West.
