Deadline for ARC or PLC Elections

Well, the deadline of making election of either ARC or PLC coverage for farmers is now looming quickly on Tuesday. Have you made your elections? Washington States Executive Director of the Farm Service Agency Judy Olson says that most counties are are further ahead than others in having all of their farmers’ elections by March 31st.
If you haven’t yet given your election of either ARC or PLC as well as updating your base acres or yield history with your local Farm Service Agency, you better get in to the office or call your local office today, Monday or Tuesday.
Olson warns farmers of the consequences of not actively making an election by Tuesday.
Olson: “I’d like to remind farmers that as they are getting in the field. I think some of them are just thinking that they will take the default — which the default program is the Price Loss Coverage Program. But by taking the default and not making an election: that means that if payments are made for any of their covered commodities in 2014 — they will NOT receive a 2014 payment. That is a penalty. And that they will be tied to the PLC for the years 2015 to2018 or the life of the Farm Bill with no options to change their election after March 31st.”
