Colorado Cattlemen's Association Announce Outstanding Commercial Producer of the Year

The Colorado Cattlemen's Association Director of Industry Programs Devin Murnin shares this year's winner of the Outstanding Commercial Producer of the Year.

Murnin: "Our Commercial Producers are Woodward Hi Altitude Cattle, John and Elizabeth Woodward in Bailey, Colorado. They are kind of unique in the fact that they are close to Denver metro area but still produce quality commercial cattle They have started a little beef business on the side for their metro customers. Their ranch is also located at a high elevation, so they actually do have to deal with brisket disease so beyond just PAP scoring for their bulls they went a step further and do PAP scores on all their females as well. Consequently their heifer calves are pretty well sought after as replacements because of that."

John took over the family ranch in 1979 after receiving a degree in Animal Science from CSU.  John started in the cattle business by buying bred cows, mostly Herefords, and breeding those to Angus bulls.

Also awarded was CattleWoman of the Year to 25-year member of the Black Mesa CattleWomen and currently president of the ColoradoCattleWomen — Teresa Burns of Hotchkiss. She is a strong supporter of the beef industry and retired ag teacher and FFA advisor. She and her husband raise crossbred cattle and club calves.
