Fairlife Milk, Leadership Award Given & Specialty Crop Money. I'm Greg Martin with today's Northwest Report.

If you haven't already, you will be hearing about fairlife milk. It seems that the Coca Cola Company is betting you will pay a premium price for fairlife, a filtered milk product that offers more protein and calcium and less sugar at a premium price. The fair life milk was created by a family owned dairy farm in Illinois will be distributed under Coke's Minute Maid Division. Some people are calling it franken-milk while others say it's just better milk.

Keith Nantz of Maupin, Ore., has been awarded the Max Deets Leadership Award by the National Cattlemen's Foundation for demonstrating outstanding leadership in the cattle industry. Nantz was recognized for his achievement at the Best of Beef Breakfast during the 2015 Cattle Industry Convention in San Antonio, Tex., Feb. 6. Nantz grew up in the small town of Imbler in Northeast Oregon, active in 4-H and FFA and dreaming of his own cattle operation. He is now in his sixth year as a cow-calf producer and hay grower in Maupin.

The Washington State Department of Ag is accepting proposals for new projects to support the state's fruit, vegetable and nursery industry through the federal Specialty Crop Block Grant Program. Proposals are due to WSDA by 4 p.m. Feb. 26. WSDA's Mike Louisell.

LOUISELL: We're also looking for projects that increase production through innovative technologies because farmers are benefiting from new technologies just like the aerospace and construction industries.
