Pear Display Contest

Pear Display Contest

Pear Display Contest. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Fruit Grower Report.

I’ve just finished some pears I received over the holidays and am heading to the store to pick up some more. What I might see in the produce department could be a contest entry. Kathy Stephenson, Marketing Communications Director for Pear Bureau Northwest explains.

STEPHENSON: We love to connect with our produce managers so the display contest is a repeat from last year and was really successful it to help engage them and help build their creativity and give them an opportunity no matter what size they are, give them an opportunity to compete and develop some really interesting displays of pears and different varieties in their produce section.

Grocery stores need to sign up with Pear Bureau for the contest and while they might win a prize for the display, the consumer also wins.

STEPHENSON: We see folks come up with creative ways of bringing consumers in. Our pears are displayed in a more prominent space in the grocery department and they also pick up more space and it’s a great way for us to take a center stage in the produce aisle.

The “Pear Up with USA Pears” Display Contest invites retailers to build an eye-catching display of Green Anjou, Red Anjou, and Bosc pears while inclusion of other varieties of USA Pears is encouraged. To qualify for the contest, the display must be maintained for at least one week during the January – March 2015 timeframe. First place wins $1000.
