USDA Announces Loss Adjustment for Late Apple Harvest in the Pacific Northwest

USDA's Risk Management Agency (RMA) announced an extension of the insurance period for apple Multi-Peril Crop Insurance (MPCI) policyholders to Thursday, November 20, 2014. The extension was approved due to an unprecedented extended warm autumn that caused the maturity of apples in the Pacific Northwest to be delayed.

In keeping with USDA measures to assist producers in managing weather conditions, Approved Insurance Providers may authorize insured apple policyholders additional time to harvest through November 20, on a case-by-case basis. This additional time will allow claims to be settled based on harvested production when the end of insurance has passed.

Producers are encouraged to visit their insurance agent to learn details specific to their apple MPCI policy. Federal insurance program policies are sold and delivered solely through private livestock insurance companies and agents.  A list of crop insurance agents is available at all USDA service centers throughout the United States and on the RMA web site
