Unique Fruit and Nut Nursery Production Farm Walk

I'm Lacy Gray with Washington Ag Today.

As part of the Tilth Producers of Washington and WSU Small Farms Program Farm Walk Education Series family owned Burnt Ridge Nursery and Orchards, located in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains, will be hosting the next Farm Walk September 22. Angela Anegon, Education Coordinator with Tilth Producers, talks about the farm's practices and what attendees will learn about.

ANEGON: We'll be at Burnt Ridge Nursery in Onalaska learning about their unique fruit and nut nursery stock production and how they market these nursery products through direct and mail-order markets. They will show us the potential to produce unique fruit such as hardy kiwi, mulberries, and unique nut varieties such as chestnuts in the Northwest, and how they use a low-input approach to do all of this.

Michael and Carolyn Dolan, owners of Burnt Ridge Nursery and Orchards, specialize in unusual food producing and disease resistant trees, vines, and shrubs, and pride themselves on having one of the largest selections of Northwest native plants, ornamentals and useful landscape trees.

Anegon says that for those wanting to attend a farm walk preregistration is preferred.

ANEGON: They can register day-of they'll just have to pay an extra $5 for day-of registration. So, they can go to our website at www.tilthproducers.org. They can also call our office at 206-632-7506 and register over the phone. $15 for Tilth Producers members, students and interns, and then $25 for non-members. But we really encourage people to also become members of Tilth Producers so we can offer them that discount.

That's Washington Ag Today.
