Hay Anchors

“I knew I had to find something that would serve as an anchor point for the tarps and I did not want to use the hay bale baling twine because something tugging on the baling twine causes the bales to break open so I just went through a series of prototypes where we evaluated different thread designand different ways of inserting it into the hay and looks at what was on the market…” And veterinarian Dr. Michael Royals didn’t find anything that met his specifications so he decided that he had an opportunity to produce something very useful. The Hay Anchor is an injection-molded plastic device manufactured in Longmont, CO. It is screwed into a bale of hay, and provides a secure location to attach tarp straps. It allows easy access for daily feeding, eliminates the frustration of trying to find baling twine to tie to, and will leave you feeling confident that your tarps will be solid and secure even in the most windy conditions.

Hay Anchors are simply rotated into the bale, either by hand or a 3?4” socket. Once placed, they provide a ready anchor for bungee “S” hooks, bailing twine or other cordage coming from the tarp grommets. The best hold is obtained where the hay is tightly packed, usually on either end of the bale along the path of the twine. If you need to place the anchor into the side if a bale, try to insert it at a slight angle, in order to penetrate as many flakes as possible.
