UGC Offers Safety Solutions

UGC Offers Safety Solutions

The situation of the United Grain Corporation’s lack of grain inspectors since early July due to what both state and federal ag agencies says is a “safety” issue is completely frustrating.
United Grain Corporation Vice President and Operations Manager John Todd says that his company has attempted to provide multiple solutions to the safety concerns that the agencies have of their inspectors crossing the picket lines to come to work. There have been four safety assessments by three different agencies in the last 10 months — with only one safety assessment report being released - which said that it was safe.
Todd shares that two separate USDA safety assessment teams visited UGC in July. Both teams he said agreed on the ground that the safety solutions provided by UGC would be adequate. He shares more about the second team’s visit on the 28th of July
Tood: “Arrived on scene and conducted their investigation. Again I spent extensive amount of time with these gentlemen. Discussed all the different options we’ve offered: we’ve offered — gosh we’ve offered helicopters, armored cars, water taxis, buses, security teams. All of which were agreed with the safety inspectors on the ground all of them that went above and beyond in most cases and adequately met the needs of safety for egress and digress. That latest report was turned in on July 31st.”
UGC is still waiting for safety assessment results.
