It's getting to be a familiar story---the new game fish size records just keep on coming. Kokanee were introduced into Nantahala Lake in N.C. in the 60's as a forage based fish, used to feed Walleye. The numbers of these "silvers", have quickly multiplied over time, making it some of the best fishing in North Carolina. The new North Carolina record for Kokanee was caught by an angler named Fred Mix The fish weighed 3-pounds, 15-ounces. Here's Bob Loomis, Director of Sales and Marketing for Mack's Lure Inc."You're pushing a 4 pound Kokanee in, of all places, North Carolina. Fred Mix is actually a guide and he really professes catch and release on the Kokanee in order to perpetuate the program. It takes quite a few customers out and just happened to be getting ready for this year and was out running his gear, playing around, and ended up hooking this fish. He caught it on a double D dodger and a Smile Blade set up, running at a particular depth, saw that it was a big fish, decided to take it in and have it officially weighed and found out it was 11 ounces over the state record. As I look at this guy holding the fish, I think to myself, while I better look out. Laughter. Yes, exactly. Turnabout is fair play. So anyway, it was caught on a Mack's lure. Correct.
