Monday Brings Down Day to Grain Markets

I’m KayDee Gilkey with the Market Line Report for June 17, 2014.

Lower day across the board in the grains markets on Monday. From the floor of the CME Group, Joe Vaclavik shares his observations of Monday’s market.
Vaclavik: “Grain markets here in Chicago were mostly lower on Monday. Corn, soybeans and wheat lower cross the board after a kind of mixed trade throughout the day. The biggest factor in terms of the grains markets right now is weather. Both weather and crop production potential in terms of row crops is very good here as we move into the middle of June. The vast majority of the corn belt has seen adequate moisture. We haven’t seen extreme temperatures one way or the other and forecasts moving forward look pretty good.”
Chicago September Wheat ended Monday down 5 and 1/4 cents at 5-91 and 1/4. September corn ended the day down 6 and 1/4 cents at 4-36 and 3/4.
Portland prices for soft white wheat were unchanged to down a nickel at mostly 6-97 and 1/4. White club wheat prices were unchanged to down a nickel at mostly 7-34. Hard Red Winter wheat with 11.5 percent protein prices were unchanged to 5 down cents at mostly 7-86 and 1/4. DNS wheat with 14 percent protein prices were mixed down 4 and 1/4 to up 5 and 3/4 cents at mostly 8-30.
August live cattle were down 17 and half cents on Monday at 146-45. August Feeder cattle up 55 cents at 208-70. July class III milk was up 11 cents at 21-04.
