Last Week Good Cattle Prices and Mostly Lower Prices for Wheat

I’m KayDee Gilkey with the Market Line Report for June 16, 2014.

Reporting from the first WSU Beef Production Conference in Yakima on Friday. The grains closed higher on Friday after a week of mostly lower prices. USDA Market Reporter Robert Eaton gives an update on the region’s cattle markets.
Eaton: “Feeder cattle compared to last week were mixed with heifers steady to lower and steers steady to slightly higher. Prices for 650 to 700 pound feeders are running as high as $210 which is increase over last week. While 800 to 850 pound feeders are a little bit lower at $170. Trade was slow to moderate with light demand.”
Chicago September Wheat ended Friday down a 1/2 of a cent at 5-96 and 1/2. September corn ended the day up 3 cents at 4-43.
Portland prices for soft white wheat were steady to up a 3/4 of a cent at mostly 6-88 and 1/2. White club wheat prices were steady to up a 3/4 of a cent at mostly 7-18 and 1/2. Hard Red Winter wheat with 11.5 percent protein prices were up 2 and 3/4 to 7 and 3/4 cents at mostly 7-88 and 1/4. DNS wheat with 14 percent protein prices were up 2 and 1/4 cents at mostly 8-26 and 1/4.
August live cattle were up $1.57 and half on Friday at 146-62 and half. August Feeder cattle up $2.30 at 208-15. July class III milk was up a nickel at 20-93.
