The Idaho Beef Council’s Executive Director Traci Bracco told me that following this Saturday’s Ironman Triathlon which includes a 1.2 mile swim, a 56 mile bike ride and a 13.1 mile run they will be setting up a beef recovery zone. “Afterwards all the athletes will hit the beef recovery zone and we will replenish their bodies with a great hamburger and some great items for them to refuel and restock their bodies after this big long endurance event. Who will be doing the cooking? We have a great team working on this event, it is our sixth year so the actual beef Council staff and a number of volunteers are going to be serving about 2000 athletes following the event. It is a very busy endeavor but we have two huge grills going and we will be cooking up the items ourselves. Can I come by for a burger? Yes. One of the great things we have become known for at this event, especially for those athletes who have done different events throughout the United States is that Boise is known as having the best post race food items and many of the athletes and comment that the last portion of the race which is run through downtown Boise, they can actually smell the barbecue grills going. By the time they actually get to us and cross the finish line they are very happy to see us and their bellies are rumbling and they are quite relieved we have a great meal for them.
