Spring Tips for Sugarbeet Growers

Syngenta Agronomy Service Representative Glenn Letendre encourages the region’s sugarbeets growers to be deliberate as they make their planting plans for the 2014 growing season.

Letendre says that it is very important to select a good seed that will get a grower the best yields with a highest possible sugar content in their crop. Then he says the next step is

Letendre: “The best seed will perform better if you treat it with a product like CruiserMaxx® Sugarbeets. CruiserMaxx® protects the seedlings from those diseases —- Fusarium, Pythium and Rhizoctonia — those diseases can prevent good root development. If really bad it can kill the seedlings before they even get established in the field. Another benefit of CruiserMaxx® is that it controls some of the diseases that impact sugar beets early in the season. It will control root maggots and it will provide early season control of leaf minors and wireworms, if they exist.”

He continues that for Southern Idaho sugarbeet growers there is an additional benefit to using CruiserMaxx®

Lentendre: “One of the nasty diseases we have here in Southern Idaho is Curley Top Virus. CruiserMaxx® will actually control early season beet leaf hoppers the insect that is known to transmit that disease. So we have a positive impact on controlling Curley Top Virus with the insecticide component of CruiserMaxx® Sugarbeets.”
