Recent Idaho Wine Competition Results. The Idaho Wine Commission's goal is to market and promote all Idaho wineries and growers. There are over 50 wineries in Idaho with 1200 vineyard acres planted. The wine industry contributed $73 million to Idaho's economy. So they held the 2013 Idaho Wine Competition. Leslie Preston produced not only the best example of Riesling in the state, but the Garden City winemaker won best in show at the fourth annual Idaho Wine Competition.?Her Coiled Wines 2012 Dry Riesling, which retails for $17, won the top award after receiving a unanimous double gold medal from the judges. I talked with Idaho Wine Commission spokesperson, Sara Dirks:”Leslie just moved back to Boise about a year ago. She decided she loved wine and wanted to make wine, she was living in Napa Valley California, she would buy Idaho grapes cut she was born and raised in Idaho, and she shipped them over to Napa because she was producing wine, and was finally able to move back and keep doing what she loved at a closer distance and has been making beautiful wines out of Idaho grapes. She loves Riesling and has a real passion for it. She thinks it is a very underutilized grape and not everybody understands how delicious it is. She has been trying to spearhead an I love Riesling campaign and it shows how much she loves it and how well she produces it and she got best in show at the competition.
