Farm Taxation Webinar Offered to Idaho Wheat Growers. The Idaho Wheat Commission will be presenting a web-based grower education seminar (webinar) on “Farm Taxation, Thursday, January 23 at 7:30 AM MST.  The Guest Presenter will be Jerry Brown, CPA” The webinar will be approximately one hour.  Participation is free!  Log onto the website at http://connect.cals.uidaho.edu/wheat and enter your name as a participant.

Discussion will cover recent changes in AG taxation.  Farm income recognition and expense issues and tax strategies for the farmer will be highlighted. Topics will include the reduced Section 179 deduction, AG chemicals security credit, a limited discussion of the Affordable  Care Act, self employed health insurance and medical reimbursement opportunities, crop insurance deferral election, sale of farmland and easements, farmland rentals, CRP, charitable gifts of raised commodities, depreciation, as well as other topics.

 

Jerry Brown owns and operates a 3,600-acre dry land and irrigated farm where he raises winter and spring wheat, and barley.   Jerry has been farming for over 40 years, and holds a bachelor’s degree in Accounting, a Master of Accounting from Utah State University, and is a Certified Public Accountant.

 

Brown was appointed by Governor Otter to the Idaho Wheat Commission in 2009.  He represents wheat producers of District Five, which includes Bannock, Bear Lake, Caribou, Franklin, Oneida, and Power counties.
