(Auctioneer picking bid) At the Burgess Angus bull sale, there was plenty of bull but one heifer was sold too. Three times in fact and for a local very good cause and it’s a cause local ranchers support. It is the Oyhee County Rangeland Farm Protection Association. Doug Ruttan, president of the Association explains it all. “Roughly one year ago with corporations through the state land, Craig Glazer and the BLM we got a memorandum of understanding so that we can fight fire on initial attack with the BLM. The fire district is a little over 1,000,000 acres, it goes from the Oyhee river to Marsing down toward the Grandview area and up to the Oregon line. What we wanted to be able to do was get to these fires quicker so that we could put them out or at least get to them and hold them until the BLM gets there with better resources and then gets them out. When we get into these million acre fires, it is so hard on the ground and the land and the relocation of livestock is a tough deal for ranchers to deal with and it hurts your community all at the same time.
