A public relations company calling itself the Progressive Farmer released a report stating that farmers are still optimistic about the overall state of the agriculture industry but slightly less than a year ago, according to the December 2013 DTN/The Progressive Farmer Agriculture and Agribusiness Confidence Index measuring current and future sentiment of the agriculture sector.

The composite Agriculture Confidence Index, which surveyed 500 randomly selected producers about their present and future situations, came in at 105.5, down from 109.1 in December 2012. A value of 100 is considered neutral. Higher numerical values indicate optimism, and values lower than 100 indicate pessimism. So learning this kind of stuff is what I love about my job. Here's the not so much. It's a public relations company, right? One would think that they would be there to answer questions regarding their releases. Listen in.

"Hi you have reached the voicemail of Greg Weimert. I will be out of the office Monday until Tuesday. If you need help immediately press zero." I pressed zero and asked for somebody else and the operator said "sure hold on". "Thanks for the call, leave me a message, I'll get back to you as soon as possible."
