Partnerships to Feed the Hungry

Partnerships to Feed the Hungry

I’m KayDee Gilkey and welcome to Open Range. Here’s Greg with today’s report.

Thanks KayDee. As we crack the shell on a brand new year Jenifer Johnson with the Idaho Food Bank reminds us that it’s important all year long.

JOHNSON: We are looking for healthy food donations and of course cash donations that we can also utilize to help feed hungry Idahoans. We are constantly working to provide food to the nearly quarter of a million Idahoans who struggle with food insecurity and making ends meet.

Of course this is not just an issue in Idaho. Every state has needs to help feed the hungry and that’s where partnerships like the Beef Counts program really help out.

JOHNSON: In Idaho the Beef Counts program is a real collaborative partnership. We work with the Idaho Cattle Association, Idaho Cattle Women and Idaho Beef Council. They support efforts for cattle ranching families and producers to provide a donation to the Idaho Food Bank. A beef animal donation is converted to cash at the auction year or a cash donation straight through to the Idaho Cattle Associations address is given to the Idaho Food Bank on a quarterly basis.

Johnson says they provide that information to AgriBeef who then matches the donation.

JOHNSON: And they’ve agreed to match up to $50-thousand dollars a year.

I’m Greg Martin and that’s today’s AgriBeef Minute.

Thanks Greg. Don’t forget Greg will be back each Wednesday with the AgriBeef Minute. Agri Beef Co - Real Families, Great People, Exceptional Beef. I’m KayDee Gilkey.
