Movento for Potatoes
Bayer Crop Science has been working to assist farmers with some of their toughest problems and here in the northwest potato growers need to deal with a variety of pests. Bayer's Steve Olson says that their Movento is a great choice.
OLSON: It's really a good time to be thinking about your spray programs going into the 2014 season. Movento, we hope is a consideration of the producers up there in the Northwest. It does offer some unique attributes. And one of the key attributes that it does have is it's one of the few products that offers a two-way systemic movement so it provides ore of a complete protection.
Olson says it not only controls foliar pests but it works on several species of nematodes.
OLSON: And providing long residual control of those pests so you have pests like aphids and psyllids. The potato psyllid which I know has been a concern for many potato growers in that it transmits the virus that causes zebra chip. And you look at aphids - aphids transmit several different viruses. Potato leaf roll virus, potato virus yellows. And from a nematicide aspect when you can control some nematodes you also can provide some mitigation of certain diseases like verticillium wilt.
