Preview of Hort

Preview of the Hort Convention. I'm Greg Martin with today's Fruit Grower Report.

This year's annual hort convention is coming up in Wenatchee. Stephanie Chance with the Washington State Horticultural Association talks about this year's theme.

CHANCE: Well the theme is, "Is Your Orchard Ready: Preparing your Operation for the Future." Last year focused a little bit more on the business side of your operation and this year it's a lot more the horticulture side. All the sessions are primarily based on your actual orchard, not so much the business side of it but what trees to plant, how to care for them, spacing between the trees, what varieties to plant for future use. They call it more of the "hoe and grow."

The convention will once again feature speakers from all over the world.

CHANCE: The batjer speaker is Dr. Terrance Robinson. He is a professor of pomology in the Department of Horticulture at Cornell University in New York and it's titled "The Vision for Apple and Pear Orchards of the Future." And we also have a couple of speakers from New Zealand. Craig Hornblow and then Steve Saunders

The 109th Annual Meeting and the Northwest Hort Expo get underway December 2nd, 3rd and 4th at the Wenatchee Convention Center. You can register in advance or at the show. For more information or to register visit their website at www.wahort.org.
