I was nosing around the Idaho Cattle Association meeting in Sun Valley and ran into David Halgarson who is an avid outdoorsman which is perfect for his job which is selling large ranches. “ I represent Fay Ranches which is based out of Bozeman Montana. We are in Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho and Oregon and we represent buyers and sellers in real estate transactions on large ranches from cattle, farms, hunting and fishing properties, anything to do with land. So you put buyers and sellers together? Yes and we have a national marketing campaign. We design a marketing campaign for the seller in order to get their ranch out and show it in a highlighted way that suits them and their ranch the best. How has business been these days knowing that young people are having trouble getting into the ranching business because it is so capital intensive to get into it? It is a high dollar value for young buyers to get into but this year has been the best year that Fay Ranches has had in sales volume. Prices finally came down to a point that met the buyers and now ranches are selling. The ranch has to be making money in order to sell. They love the recreation but it has to make money.
