05/27/05 - New favorite - Viognier

Welcome to Vine to Wine, this is your host Linda Moran. As many of you already know my new favorite wine is usually the wine that is in my glass at the time. And since we have devoted a couple of programs to Viognier this week I thought I would recommend a few of my favorites for you. With the new popularity of Viognier you can find one made from most of the major wine producing regions of the world. Now if you have the means to purchase a French Viognier please go straight to a Condrieu most all of the producers do an amazing job with this grape but do ask for a recommendation from your local wine merchant. Australia is making some good Viognier and managing to keep the prices quite low. From Australia I recommend you try Yalumba or Oxford Landing Viognier. From California although I like manyof them I still find Tablas Creek Vineyard from Paso Robles to be one of my very favorites. They also make some outstanding whites that include Viognier in the blend. Speaking of blending Viognier the Washington winery Rulo out of Walla Walla, Washington is producing a gorgeous Viognier blended with Chardonnay which they appropriately call Combine. You can easily do a google search to find any of these wineries for information about how to purchase the wines. Yalumba is spelled YALUMBA Tablas Creek is spelled TABLAS and Rulo is spelled RULO. Search out and enjoy some Viognier and tnak you for joining me on today's Vine to Wine.
