America's Farmers Grow Communities

America’s Farmers Grow Communities. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Line On Agriculture.

Linda Arnold with Monsanto says that they have once again made it possible for farmers and ranchers to give back to their community.

ARNOLD: We are back for the fourth annual America’s Farmers Grow Communities. The program asks farmers to throw their name in a hat and then the Monsanto Fund will pull one name per county and give that farmer $2500 to donate back to his or her favorite non-profit organization.

The Monsanto Fund plans to contribute more than $3.2 million this year alone.

ARNOLD: We went out and asked farmers how they would want us to support them. Monsanto is an agriculture company. Our only business is agriculture. So farmers told us that they would really like us to support their communities. They need their communities to be strong. Don’t just come in here and sell us product but support our communities because as a business we need our rural communities strong.

Arnold give us the details on how to get signed up.

ARNOLD: The farmer needs to go online to growcommunities.com or I know they’re busy with harvest so if they want to call we’ll do the typing for them and that number is 877-267-3332 and it only takes a couple of minutes. The farmer needs to give us their contact information and then of course what organization they would give the dollars to if indeed they do win.

That’s today’s Line On Agriculture. I’m Greg Martin on the Ag Information Network.
