Hunger Bowl

Hunger Bowl

I’m KayDee Gilkey and welcome to Open Range. Here’s Greg with today’s report.

I’m Greg Martin with the AgriBeef Minute. Jenifer Johnson with the Idaho Food Bank talks about the 2013 Hunger Bowl on October 19th.

JOHNSON: This is our sixth annual event with Boise State and we also work with and coordinate the food drive with Salvation Army and the Boise Rescue Mission and of course the Idaho Beef Council supports this event and they underwrite the Hunger Bowl for the non-profits who are participating with Boise State.

She explains how the Hunger Bowl works.

JOHNSON: The Hunger Bowl is a food drive and it’s super easy. Fans are asked to come with cans and drop them off. We have locations all around the parking lot, we have volunteers going through the tailgate parties and then we’ll also have big boxes at all of the gates going into the stadium.

And Johnson says they are doing a virtual food drive as well at hungerbowl.org.

JOHNSON: We’re looking for soups and stews, chili, cereal, peanut butter, pastas, whole grains and things like beans. And then canned fruit and vegetables low in salt, low in sugar are also really popular and helpful for those folks who especially have dietary needs.
