Deadline Approaching on Application for Oregon Wildfire Relief Assitance

In 2012 more than million acres in Oregon were burned and the devastation significantly threatens economic viability of communities in the southeast region of the state. The Oregon Cattlemen’s Association wants to remind Oregon ranchers that applications are due for the distribution of funds to ranchers affected by last year’s wildfire.

Last fall the Oregon Department of Agriculture helped secure $50,000 to aid in economic recovery of areas affected by wildfire and that amount was later matched by Oregon’s governor. The OCA has been designated as the lead in facilitate the distribution of these monies for wildfire recovery assistance.

The deadline to submit applications for funds is this Wednesday, July 31st. Past OCA Bob Skinner shares more

Skinner: “Now we need to get their applications filled out and get them into the Cattlemen’s office. So we have a verified form. Everything has to be accounted right down to the penny as to where this money goes. That’s the mission -- we’ve got to get the paper done.”

Skinner shares an example of just one of the many losses for affected ranchers.

Skinner: “Fences -- because fences are $10,000 to $11,000 a mile to replace if they need to be replaced.”
